The 33rd edition of the Southeast Asian Games is a monster event nearly as big as the Olympics itself. Incorporating a staggering 54 disciplines — for context, Paris 2024 comprised 48 — it’s perhaps little wonder that the lead-up to Thailand 2025 has been so chaotic. On a mission to restore at least some of the order are top stars Alexandra Eala, Gan Ching Hwee and Kunlavut Vitidsarn.
You can watch SEA Games 2025 from anywhere with a VPN and potentially for FREE.
SEA Games 2025 live streams: TV schedule, dates
Three cities were originally supposed to host, but the horrendous flooding caused by Cyclone Senyar have forced the emergency relocation of multiple events from Songkhla to Bangkok and Chonburi. It was also intended to be a stripped-down affair, by SEA Games standards at least, but the Sports Authority of Thailand and Southeast Asian Games Federation put paid to that.
The 11 participating nations didn’t score a medal between them in Paris or at the 2025 World Athletics Championships, which isn’t especially surprising seeing as many of them only sent a single athlete to the latter. The barren returns on the world stage lend additional prestige to the SEA Games.
Although Thailand leads the all-time SEA Games medal table, the country’s athletes have underperformed in recent years. Not only has Vietnam topped the charts at back-to-back Games, but Indonesia dominated the all-important badminton in 2023, taking five golds, a pair of silvers and three bronzes.
