“The Boys” season 5 is easily one of the most anticipated shows of next year. The fifth season will also be the Prime Video superhero drama’s final one, and everyone is ready to grab their popcorn and watch the show’s violent conclusion. Well, strap in, because we now have our first teaser trailer — and an official release date.
During the show’s panel at CCXP in São Paulo, Brazil, fans of “The Boys” finally got the trailer we’ve all been waiting for. We also found out that the show’s final season will kick off with a two-episode premiere on April 8. New episodes will drop weekly until the series finale on Wednesday, May 20, 2026.
Now, it’s unclear if this trailer is the same as the season 5 trailer shown at San Diego Comic-Con earlier this year. I wasn’t in attendance and couldn’t find a leaked version, but based on the first-hand accounts I’ve read, this seems to be a slightly different trailer. Still, the message appears to be the same: This is now Homelander’s (Antony Starr) world, and you can either live with it — or you can die trying to save it.

Biggest takeaways from ‘The Boys’ season 5 trailer
After watching the trailer a dozen or so times, I’ve come away with three things that are really sticking with me and that I’ll be keeping an eye on as season 5 approaches its end.
First, I think Starlight (Erin Moriarty) is going to die. We know she’s the public face of the resistance against Homelander, and at the beginning of the trailer, it’s hammered home that somebody (or somebodies) is dying this season. Then, we hear Butcher (Karl Urban) say the fateful words, “You wouldn’t be the first to throw their life away in a war. But you would be the first to save the world doing it.”
Right as he delivers that last part of the line, we see Starlight attacking a Vernon Correction Services re-education camp for Homelander’s enemies. Is that, perhaps, too on the nose? Maybe. After all, we also get a good look at Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara) during this speech, so perhaps she’s the one who sacrifices herself. But I think it makes a lot of sense for Starlight to make a big, public, galvanizing display that costs her life. Plus, Hughie (Jack Quaid), does comment on fighting for her if she can’t, throwing more fuel onto my speculative fire.
I also don’t think Butcher’s anti-supe virus is what brings down Homelander, who I do think gets brought down. The virus has always felt a bit like a MacGuffin, and interestingly, we don’t see mention of it in this trailer. We see a lot in this trailer, including A-Train working with the good guys, our first look at “Supernatural” alumni Jared Padalecki on-screen with Jensen Ackles’ Soldier Boy (sorry, no Misha Collins and Padalecki appearance on-screen together yet) and a whole lot more. But no virus.
We also don’t get a single frame of anyone from “Gen V,” and I think that’s telling. We know that the cast of Prime Video’s “The Boys” spinoff will be in season 5 and that “Gen V” superhero Marie Moreau is possibly even more powerful than Homelander. So perhaps it’s she who ultimately defeats the bombastic blonde fascist.
Personally, that’s what I’m betting on, or that she’s at least a big part of the final battle. And we maybe even get a peek at that ending in this trailer.
At the 1:26 mark of the trailer, we see Homelander looking up to the sky on his knees at letting out a blast of heat vision (or is it laser eyes?) into the night. There’s a person directly in front of him, seemingly holding an arm out, and backing away, but not running away in panic. Is it Butcher holding a gun? Or is it Marie blood-bending Homelander into submission? Quite possibly, it’s neither; there’s no way to tell. But I think that moment is going to be one of the biggest in “The Boys” season 5, no matter who it is that’s opposite of Homelander.
